Hi, I am going to a chinese restaurant next week and I am trying to be good! Any ideas on what would be a lighter option to chose? Thanks, Emma

healthy chinese food?? is there any?

Vegetable stir fries are always a good choice, and most seafood (not fried) is healthy. I personally love the string bean dishes, but just avoid the "americanized" dishes, especially the meats which will be breaded and fried. You could also ask to see if they could use less oil in their dishes, because real chinese food is actually really healthy (that's why you almost never see fat chinese people). Restaurants just us a lot of oil because it tastes good.

I agree with Scott, even though he has many thumbs down.

Very few Chinese meals are healthy from a restaurant because they use a lot of a chemical called Mono-sodium Glutamate.

This is a flavour enhancer which is added mostly to all meals and at times you can taste it if they throw in a little too much.

Towards the end of the cooking, the cook has two bowls on the back shelf which he/she reaches with the large spoon they use for cooking.

One is salt and the other is the dreaded mono-sodium Glutamate.

The only chinese I will eat are those that I cook myself without this chemical. I then know my meal is healthy.
Top marks for Scott.

if you were going for a buffet; most of the food are going to be greasy anyways so it will fill you up easily and quickily. if you are going to order dishes i would recommand you bak/pak choi with beef, wonton soup and rice; any fried rice are oily as it will need a lot oil to make it not sticky together. peking duck would be nice too with pancakes and cucmber rolls.

chinese myself :)

Avoid anything deep fried or comes with a sticky sweet and sour sauce. Lighter options are steamed and lightly stir-fried items. I'm sure if you are asking this question though it means you don't have Chinese food very often so don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy and diet after! Just pick foods you would normally eat like fish or prawns or whatever. Enjoy!

I'm Chinese

I'd go for steam rice and not fried rice plus fish/prawns and veg.

agree that don't choose those with thick sauce (e.g. sweet/sour) because they come in lots of oil (a bit like cheese in Italian).

anything plain and not fried will do.

no fried noodles (noodles in soup is fine).
roast duck or pork or chicken are fine, but not fried pork chops or sweet/sour pork (because they had to be fried before mixing with the sauce).

Have a lovely meal.

I'm a Chinese.

stay clear of fried noodles or rice, but choose steamed rice
choose one vegetable ( green) dish
Chicken, fish and seafood has less calories than pork, seafood and fish might be the lightest option

dont eat spring roll or any other kind of deep fried starter, try some steamed dumplings

No MSG. and see if you can get brown instead of white rice.
Once you say that, most chinese cooking is pretty healthy if you avoid
the deep fried treats.

Any of the soups really especially the clear ones like Wonton Soup. The stir frys....lots!
Healthier than mcdonalds, taco bell, italian

Try a special curry with boiled rice. Currys don't usually have much fat in them.

try the sumyangai or the miesukyu !!!

Steamed rice with sweet sour chicken :) Vegetable lo mein and steamed dim sum

Dises with Tofo / Chop Suey dishes.

King Prawn with noodles, ginger, spring onion.
