Is there such thing as English cuisine at all?!

Question:

Is there such thing as English cuisine at all?

Answers:
We like to think we now have an English cuisine that's comparable with those of the great cuisines on the continent. But the modern stuff now served in posh English restaurants are a fusion of mainly French, Italian, Chinese and Indian cuisines. It's not really English. Real English cuisine is there, but nobody really cooks it. It comprises old Elizabethan, Victorian and Edwardian cooking. Even the trad fish & chips were brought over by Jewish immigrants. Popular English cuisine include roast beef, hotpots, stews, and puddings.

roast beef and yorkshire pudding
casseroles and stews with dumplings
lancashire hotpot
strawberries and cream
devon cream teas
fish and chips

All they know well is "fish and chips"
And ale to wash it down...
Sorry Poms...

fish and chips
bacon buttie
hotpot
roast dinners
i don't know if there's any others

Enjoy English Food!

As has been said ... "The French are to war, as the English are to cooking" Not really a "cuisine" . . . certainly not listed among the great cuisines of the world ...

Well, i'm a veggie but i have to say that the first answer, from Louloubelle sums up traditional English food.

Might as well give her the ten points.

of course there is

A roast dinner?

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding
Toad-in-the-Hole
Fish and chips
Ploughman's Lunch
Shepherds Pie
Gammon Steak with egg
Lancashire Hotpot
Pie and Mash
Jellied eels
Bubble & Squeak
English breakfast
Bangers and Mash
Black Pudding
Bacon Roly-Poly
Cumberland sausage

Sure there is! I could list things all day, but the best way to find recipes, and even ideas to create your own, is either to visit your local library or bookstore and look up an English recipe book. You could also google English recipes or even traditional English recipes.

Most English recipes are for hearty food, lots of stews, casseroles, and vegetables that we as Americans arent used to eating everyday, i.e. turnips, parsnips, etc. Cooked the right way they can be delicious. English menus also include a lot of savory puddings. Good Luck in your endeavor! I think that everyone should try ethnic cusine at one time or another.
