Why do people think Thai food has peanuts in it?!

Question: Why do people think Thai food has peanuts in it?
I want to know why people think Thai food has peanuts in it. My dad lived in Thailand for 15 years while his dad was on a missionary trip and nothing he ever ate there had a peanut. Not a single dish of food.

Answers:

Because the westernized version of the recipes has peanut sauce in it!

I've lived in Thailand for 5 years, and a lot of Thai food which I like has peanuts in it. One of the most common and popular Thai foods - papaya salad - has peanuts in it. There are several different kinds of papaya salad, but the most common one - called Thai Papaya Salad - has peanuts. Another common Thai food is rice noodles with a kind of peanuty gravy, called KANOM JEEN. Another is salad rolls with peanut sauce. Thai noodles (phad thai) often has ground peanuts in it. My mother-in-law makes a delicious peanut soup. MASAMAN curry - sooooo delicious and fairly (not VERY) common, has peanuts in it. And on and on. I don't know the particulars of why your Dad never ate food that had peanuts in it, but I find that totally amazing.

I think it depends on the person that prepares the food. The only time I've had Thai food with peanuts in it was Pad Thai and sometimes Papaya Salad which don't make sense to me. I prefer to eat without the peanuts since I'm not a fan and I feel it takes away the flavors of the actual dish.

quite alot has peanuts inand it tastes really yummy ^___^ they have a really common peanut sauce mostly i really like their peanut coconut n veggie noodles n peanut chicken.. but yeah not everythings got peanuts though thot mn pla krai is popular.. no nuts or anything like that i think it's just.. most asian cuisine doesn't have like peanut sauce or whatever it's quite unique to thailand
