Why is cat and dog meat not as popular as pork, muton or chicken?!

Question:

Why is cat and dog meat not as popular as pork, muton or chicken?

Cat meat is like white chicken, while dog meat is dark red. There is no much difference in taste, and they go well with wine. Is it because some consider it as a tabu?

Answers:
It's pure hypocrisy.

Listen to Cindy Lou- why is it only upsetting when it's cats and dogs? Honestly I don't see how people could be so blase about all the other animals they're happy to see slaughtered en masse and then think they have a right to get all horrified about the idea of doing the same to cats and dogs.

I've had people try to explain that it's to do with intelligence (not that dogs or cats are actually the most intelligent species). As if intelligence earns you the right to be treated well. Why aren't we slaughtering all the mentally retarded children of the world then?

The fact they're family pets is our doing- they weren't born to be family pets, so they're not intrinsically any more important than any other animal.

It's almost like animal racism, if you will.

I don't eat any animals- it would upset me to see a cat suffering, but no more than it upsets me to see a cow suffering. They're all precious to me.

because most people donot have have pigs, chickens and lambs as pets.

Think about eating Fido or your Pussycat

Its ilegal in Britain. Also, more people own cats and dogs as family pets than chickens, pigs, etc as they r just farm animals, bred for eating.

Dogs, and especially cats do not breed so well - so people probably learnt that chicken flocks were more productive than packs of dogs or clowders. This spans for many generations.

yuck

Yeah, tabu.

Well, I believe it is because we, in the U.S., feel an affinity to cats and dogs because we name them and treasure them and treat them as family.
Here in Korea dog meat is a delicacy, though people still consider it a bit weird nad most girls and children won't eat it.
They bring up that people in some countries eat snails, frogs, monkeys, kangaroo, and rabbits which they find really really weird.

Good question.

Seems a bit hypocritical to me when people apply different moral standards to an animals life depending on how much THEY think the animal is somehow "better" than other animals..

We've got Cows, sheep and chickens as pets. They all show affection, run to greet us, like being fussed over, follow us around the fields etc. They are no different in thier thoughts, feelings and pain processing to cats and dogs.

Personally, i think people just bury thier heads in the sand because its convenient, they don't want to face the truth about how characterful animals are.

because there is a personal relationship between humans and cats or dogs - they're pets and we love them - it would be like eating a kid. plus, i've heard they don't taste to good... ;-)

Which do you think goes better with human flesh, red or white wine, or should we address that question to Hannibal?

It has to do with the "petting thing"
People just do not like eating their pets.
I have a freind who has a pet sheep, and there is NO WAY she will ever eat it...

Because its still taboo.

Most countries have the space available to breed farm animals and they are not thought of as pets so they're easily eaten but ... If we didn't have all the space we'd be eating dogs and cats.

The countries that do breed dogs and cats as food, and they are not treated or looked at as pets so there is a distinguishing line there. Not to mention meat such as beef is extremely expensive and most people cannot afford it.

I personally wasn't aware that people ate cat or dog meat. Yuck! I could not do it!!! Ewww!

No one eats the carcases of carnivorous animals.

Horrible question. There should be a worldwide ban on eating dogs and cats. At lease the people in the USA - except maybe for the mentally ill ones don't eat these animals. I hope people who do choke to death.

Who decides what animal to eat and what not to eat? All animals have feelings and every individual has their own unique character.
The need to eat meat is just the desire to taste flesh. Meat is not a necessity for humans.
