halal duck question can muslims eat duck?!

Question: Halal duck question can muslims eat duck?
i wanted to cook a meal for a friend and we got into a discussion because i suggested duck but realise i have never seen halal duck, my friend said that its because its a sea animal and therefore treated as a fish which does not need to be halal but then said he doesnt think duck can be eaten in his custome as the animal has webbed feet - can anyone confirm this? even if i dont end up cooking this would be nice to have some confirmation

thanks

Answers:

Animals that have been clearly and explicitly prohibited in the Quaran an or Sunnah are Haram, such as a swine, donkey, etc. Animals that are born and live in water are all Haram with the exception of fish. A duck therefore would be Haram.
But Muslims like to discuss rules as much as Jewish people and Christians.;-)
So not everyone might agree with duck being Haram.
If in doubt, play it safe

While ducks are waterfowl, I don't believe that they are sea going (i.e. salt water) birds like gulls. They do have webbed feet. To make meat halal it has to be killed and butchered in a certain way. For example, chicken can be halal, but not if it's not prepared in the halal method (same goes for kosher).
