Generally, at the beginning of a Christian ceremony the best man and the groom wait at the altar while the groomsmen walk in from the side or accompanying bridesmaids (they also may wait at the altar with the other men). The bridesmaids then proceed down the aisle, starting with the attendant who will stand farthest from the bride at the altar. In a Jewish ceremony, the groomsmen walk in pairs, followed by the best man, the groom and his parents, and then the bridesmaids.
