When storing your wine, do you store?!

Question:

When storing your wine, do you store?

the unopen bottle in the fridge or do you just store the bottle in a cool dry place?

Answers:
The refrigerator is okay for storing wines for a few weeks, but longer than that and the cork will dry out, even if the bottle is on its side. The fridge tends to dehydrate anything inside it over time.

Your best bet is to store it in a cool, dark but relatively humid location. The humidity, along with laying the bottles on their sides, helps to keep the corks from drying and shrinking.

If you are storing it for a long time, a stable temperature between 55 and 60 degrees Farenheit and about 60-80% humidity would be preferable.

For short term storage, say up to a year, you don't have to be quite so careful. The basement or any cool closet away from the kitchen or outside walls would be fine.

Cheers!

The latter.

It is best to store the already opened bottle of wine, either in the refrigerator or in a wine cooler, that way it preserve it's freshness.

Red in a dry place, kitchen cupboard. white and rose in the fridge

If you won't be anticipating drinking it immediately, then store in a cool dry place on its side and a slight slant to keep the cork moist. Once you pop it in the fridge you have 2 months to drink it, and you can't take it out to re-store at room temp.

I use the fridge but a cool dry place would work, i dont have one. The wine wont keep very long once it's open as the oxygen in the air will start deteriorating it.

I believe you answered your own question. An unopened bottle is best in a cool, dark, dry place. If you are unsure of the cork, laying it down would be best to keep the cork moist. Sometimes, storing wine in the refrigerator gets in the way of other things you keep in there.

i have a 50 bottle wine fridge. set to 54 degrees for red. When I am going to be drinking the wine, I bring the red out about 20min prior to serving, open it and let it stand for a bit to warm up to "room temp" which is mid 60s.

for whites, I stick the in the refrigerator for about the same time, then open.

long term storage, both red and white can be stored in a wine fridge or a cool dark place on their side. They do not need to be in a fridge. Garage is not the place. An inside closet or something is best.

the only time I bring the actual fridge where I store food is when I am getting ready to consume a white. ot if a red has not been stored in the temp controlled wine fridge, I stick it in regular fridge for about 20 min to chill it ever so slightly back to room temp.
