I have brown mustard seeds, but I don't have any yellow ones and I don't want to buy them. Recipes for brown?!

Question: I have brown mustard seeds, but I don't have any yellow ones and I don't want to buy them. Recipes for brown?
What recipes can i do with just brown mustard seeds?

Can i ground them up and mix them with vinegar (maybe some salt?) to make mustard for sandwiches?

Answers:

There are many Indian recipes that call for them as they use them more than the west does.

I also like them in salads as they give a hot nutty taste that balances out sweetness.
My fave recipe is carrot and green mango salad. You won't believe how good this is. Even kids eat it!
It's gorgeous on the plate.
And it's good for you!

In theory - yes - but your moustard will be very, very hot. Normally dark moustard is used as add on to make your moustard hotter. For Düsseldorfer extra, a German type of hot Dijon moustard, the ratio is 9 yellow to 1 part dark.
1 tip, before grounding your moustard seed, put it one hour in thee freezer then grounding is not so problematic.

We normally use darkish brown seeds, for tempering pickles , by crackling them up in hot oil, cooling it off, and then using it. We use black seeds for giving Tadka to Dal.
i don't think one can make mustard sauce out of these.
