Souse is appalling, as is "chow chow" (vegetables pickled with spices similar to Chutney). American style fruit cakes are completely unnecessary, except for ones' enemies. Mush is pretty gross, as are brains, liver and tripe, too. All organ meat is uncool, particularly if it was used in any capacity for passing along solid waste.

However, all of these things come from eras when people didn't dare throw a single scrap of food away, and even in the 21rst century, "hunger (still) makes the best sauce" (old German saying).

The most offensive American comestibles can be identified with the drive-thru attached to the building they're sold out of by glum, bored high school students. Any food, particularly sandwich, that has to be ADVERTISED on television is offensive, and will make you absurdly overweight, sooner or later. Even Subways are off the list, unless of course, things have gotten very bad.....

You might want to scratch frog legs off the list if you're talking about America as a whole... In the South, particularly in Louisiana, it's a delicacy. I would say any animal that we domesticate (dog, cat, horse, rabbit, turtle), spotted dick, and ALL edible bugs.

Frog legs are not a truly American dish. That came from France as did Escargot (snails). A truly American dish would be Possum stew, fried alligator or mountain Oysters (Deep fried bull or pig testicles).

Love those American delicacies.
