Is there such a thing as vegetarian cheese?!

Question:

Is there such a thing as vegetarian cheese?

Answers:
~Yes, there is plenty of cheese varieties available that use vegetable rennet to help solidify the cheese.

non-veggie cheese uses animal rennet for this, resulting in non-veggie whey and cheese.

You need to look for the veggie friendly labels.

LAURA, perhaps you should learn about the food you eat. Most cheese has dead cows in it.

Cheese is vegetarian!

Do you mean vegan? Yes there are.

Yes you should be able to purchase it in the local supermarket

yes i saw some when i was shopping at morrissons last week

yeah there is check out the link below

Yes. It's made with rennet from a fungal or bacterial source rather than from a calves stomach.

Vegan cheese is made from soya protein.

OH YES!
I made quesadillas last night, as a matter of fact!
I discovered Follow Your Heart vegan cheese (three flavors - so good, but do NOT just cut off a hunk and chomp - that's gross - grate it into food or melt it - so yummy!) and am so happy I have. Also, Tofutti American Cheese slices are BETTER than regular American cheese. Toffutti also makes vegan cream cheese.

If you are avoiding dairy be sure to look for casein in the ingredients, as that is made from milk. Also, rennet in most cheeses comes from cow. It usually will say "rennet from vegetables sources" if it's not cow stomach rennet.

i think you mean vegan cheese.and yes there is, it's made from soya

You can buy vegetarian cheese. Shape do one.

yes i've eaten it-it's made from soy

You mean fre of animal rennet? Most organic cheese is. All of Amy's and Annie's brand contain purely vegetarian ingredients, including cheese.

Paneer.

most supermarkets sell vegetarian cheese, i buy it from there for my daughter who is a veggie, just make sure it has the vegetarian label on it.

Yes, but what they use instead of rennet might be a chemical

There is a thing called soy cheese.

well any cheese that doesn't have renit in is suitable to eat on a vegetarian diet.
but to be suitable for a vegan diet the cheese would have to be made without milk & I don't no if that is available

yes! you can get it at the supermarket

Using the English language correctly there can be no such thing as Vegan cheese - cheese is made from milk, whether it be from cows, buffalo, horses or sheep - if I were a cheese manufacturer I would strongly object to soya protein being named as "cheese" C`mon EU get your fingers out!!
Vegetarian cheese on the other hand is made from non animal rennet.

Cows are vegetarians... so should cheese not be a vegetarian product? Hehe

not ALL cheeses are vegetarian...your normal chedders etc are usually veggie friendly however certain ones may not be for example parmesan...some parmesan is made with rennet which comes from the stomach of a calf. You can get cheese made with veggie friendly rennet

If you were referring to vegan cheeses then you can get vegan mozarella and other cheeses.

Im not really a cheese fan myself and Im currentyl cutting itout of my diet but I was partial to veggie parmesan grated over my pasta hehe

your best net is to check the labelling on the package of you're unsure. If you live in Britian (as I dont know if theres this shop elsewhere) holland and barrett do vegan cheeses.

I hope this has helped :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!...

Theres vegan cheese so theres vegetarian cheese

cheese is vegetarian.. do you mean vegan? and yes there is vegan "cheese". check out stop and shop they have an organic section. yes it's made from soy.

Vegans do not eat cheese, so what is a vegan cheese? Vegan cheeses are non-dairy products which are designed to be used as a cheese substitute. They may be made from soya, rice or some other vegetable protein. They vary in flavour and suitability for different uses. Spreadable cheeses, hard cheeses and sliced cheese are all available, usually from health food stores. It is worth checking the ingredients carefully, as some cheeses which are labelled as dairy-free are not suitable for vegans, as they contain ingredients derived from casein, a protein obtained from milk!
