my top 10 (not in any order of preference) are:

1. pomatini (pomegranate martini)

2. 'grey goose' peartini

3. moscato d'asti

4. late-harvest riesling (with a fruit salad)

5. bellini (when making this, don't use a french dessert wine/champagne; use instead a light and crisp italian dessert wine which is not as rich as the french. asti spumante works well)

6. spirited hot-buttered apple cider (apple cider, mulling spices, french cognac or calvados, a little butter. drink immediately. perfect during christmas! yum!)

7. champagne

8. raspberry caipirinha

9. sapphire martini

10. basil grande (strawberries, basil leaves, grand marnier, black raspberry liqueur, vodka, cranberry juice)

bonus: cointreau caress (1.75 oz. baily's irish cream + 1.75 oz. cointreau. garnish with dark chocolate shavings on top).

for beer i like: blue moon, stella artois, and a good blueberry beer. but clearly, the 11 drinks i mentioned above are a bit more special.

there are definitely more drinks but i won't make my list any longer!

here's the recipe for #2: combine 'grey goose' la poire flavoured vodka, 'DiSaronno originale' liqueur, simple syrup* and freshly sqeezed and strained lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. shake, then strain into a chilled martini glass. present with a fresh pear slice.

simple syrup recipe: 3 c. water + 3 c. sugar. bring sugar + water to a boil in a saucepan. stir and boil until sugar is completely dissolved. cool syrup. you can make this 1 week ahead and chill it, covered. makes 4 1/2 cups.

here's the recipe for #8: 2 oz. lebon cachaca + 6 - 8 fresh raspberries + dash of lime juice + 1 1/2 - 2 tbs. superfine sugar. place raspberries and lime juice into an old-fashioned** glass and add sugar on top. muddle well. fill the glass with ice, then add cachaca. stir or shake well. garnish with raspberry.

**an old-fashioned is a glass which holds 8 - 10 oz. and is also known as a rocks glass. drinks served on the rocks and chilled shots containing juices are usually served in this type of glass.

Everybody has different favorites, I'm sure you'll find out after reading all these answers. I think the top two sellers in a bar scene are beer and wine. Top actual drinks? I guarantee bars sell more plain mixed drinks than all those ones with fancy names (Grape Ape, Pink Squirrel, etc.). Rum & Cokes, Vodka Tonics, Gin Tonics, Martinis, Vodka Cranberry, Vodka Seven, Whiskey Coke, etc. are all good examples of the normal mixed drinks people tend to get. There is no best answer to this question unless you can find a survey that has been done to a few hunderd people or so.

I'm a bit surprised that nobody mentioned the good ole' Screwdriver. (Vodka and Orange Juice.)

Worldwide? Probably beer, gin, vodka, malt (Scotch) whiskys, Champagne (or sparkling wines), Bourbon, Canadian whiskey, Irish whiskeys, red wine, and white wine, not in that order.
In Northern California? Local vintages and micro brewery products.
