Ever heard of an egg in a pork bun?!

Question: Ever heard of an egg in a pork bun?
I bought a pork bun today from my local Asian market. I bit into it and there was a small white roundish thing. Looked like a small egg about the size of a large garlic clove, and my husband popped it. The yolk type material in the center was soft and oozy. The outside edges were white like egg whites, but were very thin. I was thinking maybe it was a quail egg but it didn't seem to have the right texture and look to it, even if it was not fully cooked. Anyone have any ideas?

You ate a Vietnamese bun with quail eggs in them. The bun you described should be "banh bao" if I'm not mistaken.

Quail eggs got a different texture compared to regular chicken eggs. The yolk is softer. The white will break easier.

By the way, quail egg is an upgrade. Many places just use regular eggs.

not sure could have been a duck egg anyway it's nothing dangerous just unusual that's all

Sounds delicious!

This is why I avoid authentic Chinese food.
