Cultures are so diverse here so it's tough...
I'd say, Mac n Cheese or Chili or corndogs?

All American Apple Pie for dessert for sure. Or pumpkin pie.

Cajun food is unique to the United States, but it is not eaten all across the US.

Many things made here originated in other countries - but we put our own spin on them. Just like you might think "pasta' for Italy - it didn't originate in Italy, nor did pizza.

We have our own spin on Pizza.
Tuna noodle casserole is pretty unique to the USA and enjoyed all over the states.
New england crab boil or lobster boil is unique, too.
Crayfish cooked in spices with potatoes is unique to Louisiana
Anything Tex Mex is unique to the US and probably enjoyed throughout the states.
Angel food cake originated with the Amish in Pennsylvania, but it is so common now, everyone forgets that.
True Hawaiian food is also uniquely American (but not the stuff influenced by Asian cuisines)
New England Boiled dinner is unique to America.

Believe it or not - Corned Beef with Cabbage is an American invention, not Irish. It is an imitation of a dish made in Ireland, but it isn't the same thing. Serve American corned beef and cabbage to a true Irishman and he won't recognize it as something they eat.

Bacon, the way it is made in the USA is unique - over in the UK, bacon is a different cut of pork and it is more like a roast, not strips from the pork belly.

Some foods made from packaged foods are unique to the USA - such as salads made with jello and coolwhip. Also rice crispy treats made with cereal and marshmallow fluff.

Oh - any sweet apple desserts are from the USA - that is where sweet apples came from, other apples are all tart cookers.

Can't forget s'mores - a unique American invention courtesy of the Girl Scouts

Peanut butter is an American invention - thank you Mr. George Washington Carver.

Tomatoes come from South America - but we put them on everything :)

But - I agree, we don't really have just one National Dish.

There isn't one dish. We're a hodepodge of different ethnicities and cultures. It's all very localized as well.

crawfish etoufee
any chowder
fried chicken
lobster rolls

Here in chicago, italian beef sandwiches are big but no one outside this city has ever even heard of them, including people in Italy.

The USA, by definition, is a hodgepodge collection of all ethnicities. So no, we don't have enough history to have an official dish.

That being said, a cheeseburger or steak would be a good choice. :D

I'm an American male

By far the most popular is pizza but I would say the national dish is hamburgers.

We think of pizza as Italian food but we think of hamburgers as American.

Agree there is not one.

However per region:
Corn is native to the Americas

So corn on the Cob
Corn Bread
Turkey
Mac and Cheese
Beef Stew
Lobster
Clam cakes
Clam chowder
Hush Puppies

Your basic clambake spread at a picnic

A wise man once said the national dish of the USA should be spaghetti carbonara.
I agree.

Take-out!

Turkey dinner, maybe.
