My craving for these specific foods has something to do with being vegetarian??!

Question:

My craving for these specific foods has something to do with being vegetarian??

I've been feeling like eating lot of beans, lentil, chickpeas, corn and rice... its weird because I usually never eat them a lot or together..like today i had a big plate of chickpeas and rice and i even said no to the pizza!!!... does this mean im missing something in my diet???
Is it because I am a vegetarian???

Answers:
You crave those things because they give you complete
protein. There's nothing wrong with that. It is exactly like
that for me. I think of beans, lentils, nuts and seeds the
way I used to think of meat. Your mind and body are
adjusting. That's all. You should eat beans, grains,
and nuts together pretty often. You will get complete
protein and complete amino acids that way. Eat veggies
along with those things and you will stay full and won't
experience inordinate levels of hunger.

Your body will crave thr nutrients it needs! The chickpeas craving is telling you that you need more protien. I go through the same thing often and find if I am craving something and don't know what I eat avacados and shellfish and that seems to stop the cravings.

Listen to your body and it will tell you what you need. I sometimes crave vegetables I normally hate. I love them while I crave them, then can't eat them after. Not just because you're vegetarian. Anyone who in in tune with their body will get cravings for what they need. :)

You could be missing something in your diet. Maybe iron or protein. However, you might just like beans, lentil, chickpeas, corn and rice. How are you feeling? Do you have enough energy? If you feel great but still crave the food, you might be fine. I would check with a doctor to make sure your diet looks good, just in case.

I am vegetarian too and I noticed over time I don't feel like eating greasy foods. I never thought of it as something missing because I feel great!

I'm not an expert or anything but I did just finish reading a book that addresses this topic a bit. It stated that cravings have more to do with habit and addiction than with what our bodies really need. The book (called Skinny B*tch) used drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and junk food as examples. Many people may crave a cigarette or bag of Doritos but it does not mean that we need anything in those items for our bodies to be healthy. More, it is a mental trigger that causes us to crave what we want or like, or are possible addicted to- but don't necessarily need. So, maybe you crave Chickpeas just because you like them.

Why would you worry about craving healthy foods like that? It's a lot better for you than that pizza I'm sure. Maybe your body is just starting to realize what's healthy for it?
