Ramen is the Chinese pronunciation for la-mian or hand pulled noodles. Ramen is a Chinese dish introduced to Japan. Chinese were eating ramen long before Japanese. Chinese got A LOT more different noodle dishes than Japanese too.
If you are talking about instant noodles, then the answer is still yes. Instant noodles are popular in China too.
Side note:
Instant noodle was invented by a Taiwanese guy when Taiwan was still under Japanese occupation. Japan acquired Taiwan from the Qing Empire (China) in 1895 through the First Sino-Japanese War. Technically, instant noodle was invented by a Chinese.
@I_am_not_bad: Your copied and pasted info from Wiki is missing one detail. Scroll down to history and you'll see this:
"Ramen is of Chinese origin, however it is unclear when ramen was introduced to Japan." - Exact quote from Wiki.
Again, there are tons of Chinese la-mian (ramen) dishes available. Needless to say, Chinese do not call la-mian "ramen". Americans do not call hamburgers "hambaagu" for the exact same reason. Japanese are not that good at pronouncing words from other ethnic groups. Guess what Shina or Sina meant in Japanese? That's Japanese pronunciation for "China". :)
Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish. It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat- or fish-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses toppings such as sliced pork dried seaweed , kamaboko, green onions, and occasionally corn. Almost every locality in Japan has its own variation of ramen, from the tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen of Kyūshū to the miso ramen of Hokkaidō. The Chinese noodles equivalent are called "La mian" and mean "hand-made or hand-pulled ".
So..Chinese people would use the noodles..but neither a dish called Ramen nor would they call the noodles Ramen
Just want to touch base with rashir.
You know, for centuries, we Italians thought that Marco Polo had brought pasta or noodles, as you call them, for China to Italy, but new research seems to indicate that Marco Polo actually introduced pasta to China. Now, I am confused.
Although Ramen noodles became popular in America due to a Japanese company, I believe Ramen noodles were introduced to Japan from China.
I think I heard this on Mo Rocca's Cooking Channel tv show "Foodography" on the episode about noodles.
Yes, this Chinese person does. I also eat lasagna and hot dogs.
Noodles were invented in China, by the way.
Edit- Depends on who you're asking I guess. It's like trying to figure out which restaurant first introduced the new york thin slice XD
Noodles are popular all over China and Japan.
They make their own noodles in broth in china.
The Japanese use the packaged ramen more than the Chinese do.
Yeah. Though its of a different texture in comparison to Japanese ramen and Korean ramen.

The noodles of the ramen come from China, while the soup comes from Japan.
