what are some Kentucky foods?!

Question: What are some Kentucky foods?
we each got a state for my cooking class that we need to do this huge project on, i got kentucky.
so i need to make a restaurant with kentucky foods. any ideas?
also, are there any customs or traditions with for or anything else for that matter, cause i need a theme for my restaurant also?

Answers:

There's a restaurant that made a Kentucky dish famous. The dish is called a "Kentucky Hot Brown" and it's an open faced hot turkey sandwich with bacon and smothered in cheese sauce. I found you an article on it:

Then, they Kentucky Derby is a big event in that state and food is a big part of that tradition. I know Mint Juleps are a big drink during that event. And they do a lot with Pecans. And of course anything BBQ would work for Kentucky. And Kentucky Bourbon is a tradition too (like Bourbon balls which is a no-bake confectionery item).

So, the nickname for Kentucky is also known as the Bluegrass State. So, if you need a name or theme from your restaurant, you've got the Bluegrass State, the Kentucky Derby....

Oh, an a big drink for Southern States (Kentucky included) is "Sweet Tea". I find this very interesting because I'm in Los Angeles and sweet tea is not served widely here in L.A. but it sure is in the South (and you may just be in South and not find this interesting - but I find it interesting here because that drink is weird! All that sugar!)

Well, I hope I helped you a bit.

Good luck.

You might want to look into soul food. Soul food is a kind of Southern cuisine that comes mostly from African and native American food traditions. It started out as what poor people and slaves ate, but it evolved into a cuisine, and it's found all over the American South.

- Chicken and waffles
- Collard greens with pork
- Chitlins
- Fried catfish
- Cornbread
- Sweet potato pie

All roadkill jokes aside, I would have to say that readily available local animals in a stew would probably be typical of the KY hills. Possum stew, fried possum. Then, I'd say: Grits, chitlins, and other offal recipes (organ meats).

fried chicken, and mashed potato with gravy, yummy, and don't forget the side dish of buttered carrots and corn

Kentucky Fried Chicken.... KFC
