You can use any yogurt as a starter as long as it has 'live culture'. If the yogurt is pasteurized, it will kill the culture. Do not use pasteurized yogurt. You can even use frozen yogurt if the culture is alive, freezing does not kill the culture, it just makes the culture inactive till the temperature return to normal.
If excessive amount of sugar is added to the yogurt, it may kill the culture.
I buy Dannon Vanilla yogurt and use it a starter all the time.



Yes there are Indian dishes that are made from milk that is flavored and then cultured but you might have problems from the added ingredients like gelatins and gums.



Depends on how it is flavoured. If its sweet, not on its own. But a grilled chicken breast on salad with a mango yoghurt dressing..yes
