Is it better to re-wash pre-washed salad greens?!

Question:

Is it better to re-wash pre-washed salad greens?

Like if you bought a package at the store and it said "pre-washed" do you re-wash them?

Answers:
I don't always, but know that I should. However I always wash head lettuce really well and that is what I usually buy. If you ever take the time to put the whole separated head in a bowl of water you would be surprised at the amount of dirt and little creatures in that bowl. When I do re-wash the pre-washed stuff I don't find all this, but know there is probably stuff I'm not seeing even if it is just someone else handling it.

I usually don't but it doesn't hurt!

Yes, because when they wash them they don't get them as clean as you would hope.

I would better to be safe than sorry

Yes I do, don't you remember the huge spinach scare. That was enough for me.

Re-washing lettuce is a pain in the butt. Just take the outside layer off, throw it away and your all good.

Let's just say that in Seattle there was a local cruise line that was taking their maiden voyage. They had a lot of "pre-washed" basil they used for dinner that didn't get washed.

Everyone got food poisoning from it... and the passengers were lawyers.

I always wash produce whether it's pre-washed or not.

Even if it says prewashed, just wash it again. Because, even when they wash it, it may not be washed like you want it to.

I don't. The e-coli in recent cases could not have been washed off the lettuce. It was contanimated from the ground water. So I guess we take our chances. The only thing we can do is push for better agriculture sanitation regulations.
