Why do Chinese eat with chopsticks?!
Answers:
Bamboo is plentiful & cheap in China.
Their food is all prepared in bite-sized pieces.
There is no cutting & stabbing done at table.
They consider that barbaric.
because it is versatile, very manuverable once you learn how to use it, and as someone said, its efficient in communal eating. everything is cut up into bite size pieces, so no need for knifes while eating. you can pick up anything with it that not too bulky. and when theres plates of dishes in the center, everyone can use the chopsticks to pick up some pieces and eat it in their personal bowl of rice. if they want more, just pick up some more.
i am a chinese person..
For some reason in the west we use a knife and fork where chopsticks are a lot easier to use for certain foods. A lot depends on the type of food that is eaten. In the west we eat a lot of meat that needs to be cut and eaten. Chinese food is made where there is no need to penetrate the food with a knife or fork and it just needs to be gently picked up with the chopsticks and eaten.

part of the reason is indeed tradition, but another part is the communal aspect of eating. The use of chopsticks allows the people involved to extend their reach and share with the other members of the table. Chopsticks were also used in place of tongs and other kitchen utensils.
That's just the way they do it, if you think about it, chopstick eating and bowl sipping would be the easier ideas to use as utensils, especially back in the day, and now it's just tradition.
Pooh Bear eats with his butt..
It's in their culture. So what's the big deal. Why do some mid-eastern cultures eat with their hands, sometimes using a piece of bread as a utensil? It's their custom and culture. Who cares?
Knives are considered as weapons and impolite to use at tables for eating, forks are relatively recent inventions and spoons are used for soups etc
They also use spoons sometimes.
why do you eat with knife and fork.........
traditions, history etc...
do they not eat with their mouths like everyone else?
Why not? It's tradition.
