What goes good in miso?!

Question:

What goes good in miso?

What are some good things to put in Miso soup? Traditionally it is made with bento flakes, a fish-based flavoring but i want to move away from that.

For those who have never tried it, Miso is a soybean based paste from asia that is really good tasting.

Yum

green onions are usually used, but you can use mushrooms, squash, any kind of vegetables - tomatos, anything. It's a great thing to make soup with - and it's got a lot of health benefits - particularly for women. There is only one problem with miso - it's insanely expensive. But other than that, it's great stuff...

Carrots cut into matchstick slices, tofu, sesame oil, scallions, dried mushrooms, seaweed. Also, water chesnuts would not be out of the question.

I like a small amounts of fresh ginger, green scallions, and daikon roots.
