In checking the history of the Borgias and other groups that extensively made use of poisons to do away with enemies and rivals, one comes to the conclusion that there is no way to prevent someone poisoning the food. No matter how closely you control food preparation, there are so many ways undetectable ways to slip poison into food, and the effects are so variable from person to person (the "Mad Russian" Rasputin, for example, was seemingly impervious to the effects of various poisons), that if someone wants to poison you, they usually can. By way of prevention, I would say this: be nice to the servants and generous to dynastic family members.
