Where can I buy Tuyo fish in America?!

Question: Where can I buy Tuyo fish in America?
My family grew up on this filipino staple. My grandma made it for us all the time. We ate it with garlic fried rice and tomatoes with vinegar dipping sauce. I haven't had it in years. I live in the Quad Cities in Iowa and whenever I ask for it at the Asian Markets (little mom and pop stores) they have no idea what I'm talking about. I think I'm gonna have to find a website that I can order it from! Does anyone know how I can get my hands on some? My neighbors are gonna have to take a chill pill, cause I haven;t had it in over a decade and I'm jonesing! lol Please help! I miss that awful stench!

check the online filipino stores i'm sure there is. i think the most popular one is in jersey but i forgot the name.

i live in baltimore where there arent too many filipino stores as well.

you are cute for trying to find tuyo in the states. :) if filipino stores dont have it there, then looking for it online may work. IF it's truly hopeless. go visit the Philippines :)

Here's a link to a Filipino Foods Distributor...contact him and see if you can make a directy buy without having to have a retail or wholesale license. Good Luck.

Tuyo is not one particular fish. It is the result of salting and sundrying a number of small fish, preserving it for eating later. You can make it yourself, if you can find the fish. It's usually served by frying the entire fish and dipping it, and your rice ball, in some sort or soy sauce, garlic and ginger sauce.

The neighbors will NOT like you after the first batch. And the frying pan you use will probably need to be tossed as you can't get the 'aroma' out of it. As a matter of fact, you may need to buy lots of air freshener if you cook it inside your house. It's very, um, aromatic.
