A similar taste to a Hawaiian Delicacy?!

Question: A similar taste to a Hawaiian Delicacy?
Im interested in Poi. I know what it is, mashed Taro Root, and was told it has a bland starchy texture. Im from Illinois, and when I think of bland, starchy texture, I think of unseasoned mashed potatoes. Is Poi anything like that? Is it like tofu, maybe? Thanks in advance!

Answers:

Having lived in Hawaii, I've acquired a liking for poi. It is very good for you too! Poi is an acquired taste, and it is bland in taste.

In answer to your question: Poi has a consistency of smooth wall paper paste (really). Although it is very bland, some sweeten their poi with sugar before they eat it. I enjoy eating day old poi with "kalua pig". Day old poi becomes tangy in taste.

HTH!
