A question to vegetarians?!

Question:

A question to vegetarians?

I am a meat lover. I don't think I can stand living the rest of my life without eating meat. That is why I want to have a good idea about how people with extremely different preferences in their diets think. Please answer the questions below:

a) Why do you avoid meats?
b) How (and when) did you decide to stop eating meat?
c) Please tell me what you think of meat lovers.

Answers:
I avoid meats because of the harsh environments they keep the animals in and the harsh chemicals they put in to the meat. Like arsenic in chickens.

It was Jan 28 of this year I decided to give up meat. I felt really strongly about it and haven't looked back.

I think that people eat what they want to eat. No matter what I believe, its not going to stop you. I once thought I'd die if I ever gave up meat. I used to eat a piece of chicken (it didn't matter what type) every single day. My sister stopped with me and we help each other figure out meals to eat. Our dad still eats meat and has actually started eating more to 'make up for what we're not eating' as he says. If you like meat then who am I to stop you from eating it?

a) I avoid meats for religious purposes
b) I stopped about 3 years ago when I started getting into my religion....it was purely a personal choice, it has nothing to do with not being cruel to animals even, it was purely a lifestyle choice I made
c) I love meat lovers, everyone I know eats meat, my girlfriend eats meat! I do not look down at meat eaters, I still go out to restauraunts, I just order a vegetarian alternative if available but I do not make a big deal about it, I do not preach out against eating meat!

I like meat too but I try and avoid too much because it is rotting flesh and takes an awful long time to digest. In some countries like the U.S. there are a lot of additives that come through the antibiotics fed to fatten cattle, chickens etc. These are often estrogen rich and that is why some men are developing 'moobs' (male boobs).

There are strong links between bowel cancer and meat consumption - the thought of having to have a colostomy bag is a real put-off.

I went vegan for some years but didn't take supplements and as a result I became quite ill, anaemic in fact, so now I eat a little bit of fish and a few grams of meat about once a month. So, when I buy meat, I only buy the best quality and free-range if possible.

My husband loves to eat steak and stews etc. so I cook them for him - in moderation! I love my husband and it is not for me to judge anyone on their food preferences.

You know what is best for your body, so go with the flow!

a) Why do you avoid meats?
Kills animals, rotting flesh, unhealthy.
b) How (and when) did you decide to stop eating meat?
Due to health and spiritual reasons.
c) Please tell me what you think of meat lovers.
Unhealthy habit like smoking/drinking.

The best way to understand why people choose a lifestyle different from your own is to ask, so I commend you on trying to understand why people choose something different than your own self. If only more people tried this.

a) I avoid meat for ethical, health and environmental reasons. I do not like the way animals are treated by the meat industry, to me it is just sickening. I also do not believe that we as human were made to eat meat. There is so much evidence that shows this(which I won't go into, as I don't want this to turn into a debate).

b) I stopped eating meat a few years ago after reading various journal articles for a class. As well as watching some of the videos on line. I also was revamping the way I ate(which was not as healthy as I wanted it to be) and found that the vegetarian diet is a much healtheir way of life.

c) As for meat eaters... I don't view anyone any different because of how they choose to eat. I feel that prejudices against any person whether it be for food preference, religion, race, etc is wrong. I have met my fair share of meat eaters who were very nasty, simply because I didn't eat meat. I refuse to allow myself to sink to their level. I always feel that thier ridicule and hatred is not because they are a meat eater, but just because they are a jerk. There are many people who are like that in this world and I feel that they have other issues, if it were not vegetarians that they hated, it would simply be something else.

I know a lot of meat lovers, my best friends eat meat. I don't classify the people I know and meet into groups of meat lovers and vegetarians.

a) My top reason for not eating meat is because the intensive farming methods used and inhumane methods of slaughter turn my stomach and make me feel ashamed to be human. After much reading and research there are many other arguments in favour of not eating meat which could go on for pages, but that's what initially made me do it.

b) I only decided to stop eating meat a year ago but sincerely wish it was longer (like my entire life). It was the most simple and and sensible decision I've ever made.

c) My entire family, all my friends and by boyfriend all eat meat and I still love them all dearly (most of the time). Anyone who dislikes a person solely because they eat meat must be very lonely.

a) Why do you avoid meats?

I don't see the need to kill animals to eat. They all have character ( we have pet cows, sheep and chickens ) just as much as a pet dog or cat. Don't understand why humans think they can randomly decide which animals live and die.

b) How (and when) did you decide to stop eating meat?

Age 14, shown a pig farm by the local farmer becasue they were so proud of th animal husbandry. I thought if thats the BEST the UK has to offer animals then i'm "out-of-here" and haven't touched meat since - now 41 years old.

c) Please tell me what you think of meat lovers.

Each to his own. It would be nice if they educated themselves on the way animals are treated, the evidence is there to see. But i find most meat-eaters tend to try and blame farmers rather than accept its them that pay for the pain, torture, cruelty and death. Don't mind if you do it, but it would be nice if you all accepted your responsiblity in the meat industry.

a) Why do you avoid meats?
ethics, environmental, health,
b) How (and when) did you decide to stop eating meat?
i decided to stop about 12 years ago when i realised what a disguiting industry it is and cruel. I thrive of a vegan diet, so why cause suffering?
c) Please tell me what you think of meat lovers.
I probably view them as either naive or selfish.

A) I avoid meats because of the harsh conditions that they keep the animals in. I strongly disagree with factory farming. Also, the chemicals that are injected into the animals are very harmful

B) I started my veggie lifestyle about a year ago. I watched some videos and decided that i did not want to eat meat anymore.

C) I do not frown apon meat eaters. Most of my friends are meat eaters. I do not try and force my beliefs apon them. This was my choice, not theirs.

A) the reason why i avoid meat is the factory farms are so mean to he animals! and l cant stand they way meat tastes!

B) I decide to stop eating meat 2 years ago how i did it was i just stoppd eating meat! lol

C) some are ok it is just the ones who are like you are not going to change me ( when you are not even tring to change them) or when you are on this bord and there is a video about animals dying and they come on here and say :"that makes me wont to have a steak" or " whatever that dose not happen you made that video up yourself those are the ones l do not like!!!

I used to be a meat lover, every meal was considered based on which meat I would center the meal around. At 24 I was healthy, a long distance runner and hiker, with very little body fat. My father just had a major coronary, and to be safe I had a plethora of heart tests performed on me. The doctor told me a heart attack was expected within four years time.

I gave up red meat that day, focused on eating poultry. A year later I decided I was eating too much cheese and poultry, so I gave up the chicken and cut back on the cheese. I then focused on seafood. But, come on I was kidding myself - I actually thought this was healthier. So at 25.5 years of age I went vegetarian. Within a year I was vegan. I celebrated the 4th year aniversary of those heart exams with some others. Things had improved, but still I had some work to do.

I stayed with the vegan diet and at 32 (four years later) I was tested again. The doctor could not believe the results, they had never seen such a turn around. I was told I had the heart of a sixteen year-old.

I respect a meat-lovers decision to eat meat. It is how one has been socialized, and it is often difficult to question that which has been engrained in your knowledge of the world. I don't believe everyone has the ability to pull away from the situation we are in, considering the power of corporations to define what our diets are and the power of the knowledge one has and one lacks. Let me add, I was that person who said, "I couldn't live without meat." I understand those thoughts.

To be a "vegetarian" today is easy. I put it in quotes because if you are not dedicated to the lifestyle, you may label yourself a vegetarian, and still unwittingly be eating byproducts of the meat industry, they are everywhere.

To be a dedicated vegetarian is much more difficult, and to be a vegan... well you all have my respect, and I hope you all continue with that dedication.

I will close by saying, in ten years I plan on celebrating my second life - I will be 52 - and able to say I spent my second half of life without meat. A half life that I once thought I wouldn't have the opportunity to enjoy as much as I have.

a) I avoid meat because I don't support the way the animals are tortured at farms and slaughter houses. No animal should have to go through a life like that.

b) I actually just became a vegetarian about a week ago. It was very difficult for me because my mom didn't support my decision. (Still doesn't really.) So I have to cook all my meals on my own. But I'm ok with that because I will do whatever it takes.

c) My whole family and boyfriend are meat eaters. Obviously I still love them all. I don't like to be "preachy" about it, but sometimes I feel like I need to inform them.

Why do I avoid meats? It's becuase I was raised vegetarian and have never eaten meat, therefore I never made a decision to stop eating it, it's just never been food to me. I don't really care if other people love to eat meat, it just means that the damage they are doing their bodies is outweighed by their desire for something that tastes good to them.

A) I love animals
B) September 2006, I stopped by replacing meat with other things, or eating everything served at dinner, except the meat
C) A lot of my friends are meat lovers...I respect their decision, they respect mine

a) Why do you avoid meats?
~ I AVOID MEATS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANIMALS TO SUFFER ON MY ACCOUNT. I DON'T LIKE THAT KIND OF RUTHLESS MURDERING BLOOD ON MY HANDS.

b) How (and when) did you decide to stop eating meat?
~ I BECAME A VEGETARIAN WHEN I WAS 13 YEARS OLD AND I HAVE BEEN ONE EVER SINCE. AND HOW? WITH THE SUPPORT OF MY MOM AND FRIENDS AT PETA. ALSO, I DID IT COLD-TURKEY.

c) Please tell me what you think of meat lovers.
~ MEAT LOVERS? IT'S THEIR OWN PERSONAL CHOICE. THEM EATING MEAT WON'T EFFECT ME IN ANY WAY SO WHY SHOULD I WORRY ABOUT THEIR DIETARY HABITS? I JUST TRY TO CHANGE SOME PEOPLES VIEWS BECAUSE OF HOW MANY ANIMALS SUFFER. PLUS, I'D LOVE EVERYONE TO ENJOY THE LOVE OF BEING A VEGETARIAN. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE.
