mushrooms are high in vit D, also eggs, orange juice and cheese. The body makes Vit D when in the sun, its because of the way the body reacts to UV rays from the sun.
very few foods contain it naturally. Mostly fish and meat.
Milk and cereal is fortified with it.
Exposure to the sun for 15 minutes every day, without sunscreen will give you all the vitamin D you need but people who live in the upper Midwest don't get enough direct sun in the fall and winter to make a difference so many doctors are advising supplements of Vitamin D3.
You did not say where you live and that definitely makes a difference.
Sun exposure to the skin is the human race’s natural, intended, most effective and most neglected source of vitamin D.
You don't have to eat, just enjoy the sunshine :)

Eat low fat dairy products, skim milk, broccoli contains calcium, fish bones - canned fish like salmon have the bones in them and then are nice and crunchy. Take a supplement.
Take a vitamin D supplement. You get the good stuff without too much sun exposure or the added calories.
