Question: What does Cheese Spaetzle taste like?
I'm going to have it tomorrow. I'm a 16 year old girl with German family roots.

Same here, in fact I am directly related to Martin Luther, and I am a former chef, spaetzle is a type of noodle like dish, made with flour, eggs, water, oil and a scrape of nutmeg, the dough can be cut or pressed through special noodle cutters/presses, I use a colander with large wholes, it can be short and stubby or long like spaghetti type noodles, most are cooked then cooled, and finished before serving in a pan with butter or bacon fat, a sprinkle of parsley and served as a side dish.

Cheese types can have it in the batter or on top when serving, Muenster or a milder swiss is nice inside it could be made with Kase Kremen, a cream/cottage cheese like product, I have made them with Quark, we have it here in Canada.



I think you'll like it. I liken it to a very upscale type of macaroni and cheese, because that's what it is. It's a special kind of pasta in a very cheesy sauce. Usually Emmentaler cheese is used. (Emmentaler cheese tastes sort of like Swiss cheese.) It's great when it has fried onions on top.

I can't help you out, although I love Spaetzle. I usually had it with J?gerschnitzel und Pilze (pork cutlet with gravy and mushrooms), topped with FRESH cut "Peterslilie" (parsley). Delish.

It tastes like pasta with a cheesy aftertaste. Its delicious with caramelized onions.
