Insect eggs in top ramen?!

Question:

Insect eggs in top ramen?

Hi. One time I made an old packet of instant oatmeal that had been sealed in a brown package, and there were bugs in it, and my freind said it was because in the older ones the eggs were able to hatch when boiling water is added. I've heard the same is true with top ramen. Is there any truth to this, and why would it only be in the older packets? Wouldn't the eggs die?

Answers:
There are insect eggs in tons of things that we buy - cereal, flour, pasta...the best thing to do is to put things like that in the freezer for at least 3 days - this kills the eggs and keeps them from hatching.

Maybe we shouldn't eat anymore... lol
