DIFFERENCE between Steam Dumplings and Steam Buns...? (Chinese)?!
I tried "steam buns" recently on a chinese placea and now they are not offering them, but other chinese places offer what is called "steamed of fried dumplings" and I am wondering if I order the steam dumplings, will they be the same as the "steam buns"...?

steamed dumplings are normally eaten hot, and have a slippery skin.
steamed buns can be eaten cool, and they have a bread like skin. and they are bigger than steamed dumplings.

no, they are not the same thing texture wise. they may have similar fillings, being as you can fill either one with whatever you choose, but the difference lies in the dough. the steam buns will be really light, soft and fluffy. the dumplings will have more of a shell that can be crispy or soft, depending on how they are cooked. as for ordering them at the restaurant, they really won't be the same at all because they will have different fillings and textures.
No they're not the same thing. A steamed bun is...well, it's a bun. It's made of bread. A dumpling is made of a pasta-like covering.
While both have fillings, even those are different between a bun and dumpling.
Most dumplings just contain a mixture of pork and cabbage or leek. Steamed buns can contain Chinese BBQ pork (my favorite), egg custard, or a variety of other things.
Dumplings have a more doughy texture -- similar to cooked pasta. As with buns, they have a soft bread-like outside.
Steamed buns are more like bread and usually when they are talking about dumplings they mean won tons.
