i just bought a frozen durian?!

Question: I just bought a frozen durian?
Now what?

Answers:

My family eats them. lol.
Mum usually waits for it to defrost, then you cut it in half with a big knife and scoop out the inside filling.
It actually smells gross in my opinion and it has the texture of ice cream.
It taste alright, but im like allergic to it. so yeah, I don't eat it.

Durian Frozen Yogurt
16 ounces Greek yogurt or 32 ounces whole milk yogurt
4 ounces frozen durian fruit
1/2 cup sugar

If you are using whole milk yogurt (and not the Greek yogurt), you’ll need to strain out the water (whey). Line your fine meshed sieve with a double-layer of cheesecloth. Spoon the yogurt in, and let it sit propped over a deep bowl in the refrigerator for at least four hours. Discard the whey (water.) If you are using Greek-style yogurt, no need to strain, just use as is.

Use your hands to scoop out and discard the large seeds. The durian should be soft enough at room temperature to use a potato masher or whisk to smush and break up the durian. In a bowl, mix the yogurt, durian and sugar together. Taste and if add more durian if it’s not durian-y enough for you! Refrigerate for 1 hour or overnight.

Following the your ice cream maker’s insturctions, churn, baby, churn the durian yogurt until the mixture is the consistency of soft ice cream.

Hacking a durian open with a knife could be dangerous and difficult. Prying it open with your bare hands (not kidding) is the best option. Here's the trick:

If the durian is ripe, there should be tiny splits at the end; overly ripen durian will have cracks: http://www.hot-screensaver.com/wp-myimag…

Push the end to make the splits bigger and more visible. Pry along one of the cracks until the crack is big enough to fit your finger. Once your fingers could get in, you could reach in and pry it open in no time. If your durian isn't very ripe, you will have a harder time splitting the cracks open. A broad, flat head screwdriver will help you open up the cracks. You only need to jam the tip into the crack to make the gap wider. As a safety precaution, make sure that you push the screwdriver downward and away from you.

PS: You'll have to let the durian defrost first before you attempt to open it.

I heard the smell is so bad it's not worth it

Throw it in the trash. Even fresh it tastes like sh**.

Cook it
