Traditionally one of the ingredients in haggis are ground sheep lungs. And in the US selling sheep lungs for human consumption in illegal.

McSweens, one of the largest producers of haggis in Scotland has this to say on their website:

"due to custom regulations we regret it is not possible to ship to USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan or China"

So you might be able to buy an American one, but not a proper Scottish one.

How can something so illustrious as haggis be illegal?

Almost certainly not, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were. After all what all American would eat something so foreign?

no its not illegal in the US

but as sheep stomach is not a common food product in most of the US, its very hard to find.
