Is Korean spicy food healthy or not?!

Question:

Is Korean spicy food healthy or not?

I was living in Korea for a few months and the locals there are convinced that the extremely hot red spices they put on just about every food is for your "well-being". But in the West, spicy food is considered unhealthy. Who's right?? Any dieticians out there to clarify this for me?

Answers:
Moderation is the key here. It also depends too whether if you have ulcer or any medical conditions that will prevent you from enjoying the spicy dishes. That may be what the west was referring to?

Most spicy foods has chili which contains capsaicin, which is known to lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and other health conditions. It definately has health benefits if you are a healthy individual consuming it in moderation.

I'd say, it's not terribly good or terribly awful for you; people say it's bad for you because they've been raised by parents who think that, and others think it's good because their society seems to believe so.

Spicy food is good for you! It has been proven to boost your metabolism and keep you healthy overall. The common misconception that spicy is bad for your stomach is continued by those with week stomachs and a preferance for bland food! (kidding..)

Some of it - the antioxidents in Kim Chi will do you good, but excessive chilli in other dishes could be harmful

Being a former chef and loving Korean food, I have it almost every week, I keep alot of Korean food stuffs. As far as being unhealthy, the various vegetables, soups and other ingredients make it very healthy for you.

Spicy foods are very good for you, Mexican Indian, Hunan and Szchwen chinese and Thai all have health benefits. Hot peppers and the ingredients aid in digestion, help with cardio vascular issues and full of vitamins and minerals.

I use chili peppers or some kind hot sauce on most everything I eat, except my corn flakes. I would not be concerned, they do not produce ulcers, they are formed from a bacterial problems and a weakened stomach lining. Anyone who tells you that spicy food is bad for you is just unaware of its values or just does not like it and figures no one else should???

well im korean and i grew up around korean food and its veryyy healthy for you, the reason is becuz the kind of pepper they use...in the west..here in the states, its unhealthy becuz spicey food here often contains added ingredients like alot of salf and sugar so yeah

Spicy foods are never healthy!

Forget the dieticians!! The proof is everywhere in Korea the South that is. The women have some of the loveliest complexion on the planet; and you don't want to mess with the men - they are toughies!!

The red hot spices you see are what makes Korean food healthier and a lot more zesty - perfectly complementing boiled white rice! Eat, enjoy Korean; it's a helluva healthier than many other ethnic cuisines.
