How long do spices usually last?!

Question: How long do spices usually last?
Bought a spice rack today and a note inside says "spices best used by Dec 12, 1012.

Answers:

Dried spices usually last for quite a long time. They should have either a best before date or a used by date. I`d say the date above is DEC 12, 2012. Most spices are also OK to use for a while after the best before date and I will use mine for 6 months - 1 year after that date.

Spices have long long life....for years....so dont worry they are good........
brand companies doesnt want to loose on their sale so they put these kinda tags......or may be the spices they sold itself are quiet old kept and might expire in 2012 :)

I have actually heard that spices are only good for 6 months. I saw that on a cooking show on food network.

Since most spices are natural, you don't have to worry they last for years.

Whole spices last longer than ground spices.
