Britons typically do not wash their dishes at all, there's really no need; they lick their plates (which removes all the bean juice and toast crumbs), then let the dog lick the plate (which removes all the human spit), then leave their plates out all night, allowing the dog spit to evapourate, leaving the plates spotless and sanitized, ready for another round of Beans on Toast...
Rinsing dishes is generally done before they are put in the dish washer to make it easier for them to be washed properly.
There is no need for a TV show to tell you to do that during the clean up.
North Americans don't rinse their dishes either.
TV shows are pretend. People behave differently at home.
