Question: How many calories in 1 cup traditionally made Cuban Congri (Black Beans and rice)?
i have seen 400 - 268 calories for it. anyone have a good guesstimate for it?

For one cup (assuming a half cup rice and a half cup beans plus the juice/gravy), I'd guess at least 400 or more. The cooking water is heavy laden with the fat from the pork.

I love them though. I make that the meal with chopped cucumber and tomato salad on the side and usually omit the bread. I think a cup for both the beans and rice is a conservative estimate for the portion that is usually served.



One cup of beans and rice is about 250 calories. As long as there isn't any meat or extra fat in congri, the calorie count shouldn't be much different.
