Dairy Alternatives?!
Dairy Alternatives?
I have recently decided to cut all beef, pork, and chicken out of my diet. And I was also wondering about cutting out milk. I don't drink whole milk, only 1%, but I was wondering about milk alternatives. I'm especially interested in Almond milk.
I was wondering if anyone could give me a list of really good milk alternatives and maybe some reason why the alternatives would be better.
Thanks!

Westsoy Vanilla - the vanilla flavor is sweet and very tasty in cereal. Westsoy is going to be the most economical brand. I don't know where you live, but in IL - the cost of milk has skyrocketed to where Soy is cheaper than milk at Aldi! You have to pick the right brands - I didn't like Silk very much. Also, Rice drinks have a less strong flavor than soy but it tends to taste more watery. The cool thing about soy is that it's a bean product - helps women balance out their hormones and it's great for your overall health! No matter which you choose - this will take some getting used to - but after 2 years - you'll lose the taste for milk and it will seem disgusting - just like milk drinkers think the alternatives are! Milk also has cholesterol which the alternatives don't have. Many of the alternatives are fortified to have more nutrition than milk. Milk as an animal product can cause allergies, nasal congestion and can contribute to sinus issues whereas the alternatives are less likely to case health issues or contribute to them. The alternatives will give you more energy than milk and you feel better drinking it! I suggest a Whole Foods Store or a nutrition store - they specialize in finding all the best brands and will tend to have lots of options and will be able to give you and entire list of the alternatives. Whatever substitute you use - don't forget to shake it well before serving everytime or it can get gloppy at the bottom - especially soy.
umm... well
I love soy milk. I never drink milk. I think it is soooo nasty, but when I tried soy milk, I fell in love with it. It tastes so good. I think soy milk has a much better taste then regular milk.
soya milk tastes weird but im using it now to cut down on my fat intake.lots of protien from soya milk.
Almond milk is great. I also enjoy soymilk, and recommend SILK brand. I also would stick with soymilk that is refrigerated because it tastes better cold.
Soymilk is available in plain, vanilla, and even chocolate.
I use in in cereal but found it doesn't taste good in coffee.
First of all i would really suggest atleast aking a multi-vitamin or your immune system is really going to suffer. Also your muscle will weaken from the lack of protien. Also your blood flow will slow. Thamine would be a great supplement for you as well. There is always goats milk amd soy are great options.
Here are some suggestions for you on some non milk based products:
EcoMil Quinoa drink is delicious, light and easy to digest. Quinoa is a nutritious and ancient grain from the Andes. Often described as a 'super-grain', it is a particularly good source of protein containing all the essential amino acids. Quinoa is key food for a nutritionally balanced diet, and is a perfect alternative to dairy or soya milks.
EcoMil Almond and EcoMil Hazelnut in tetrabrik are ready-to-serve drinks sweetened with agave syrup. They are an ideal replacement for soya or dairy milk and have a pleasant clean taste. Almonds and Hazelnuts are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids(oleic acid) which can help to increase the 'good cholesterol' (HDL) and reduce the 'bad cholesterol' (LDL).
EcoMil Sum combines the nutritional properties of almonds, soya and cereals, and is sweetened with agave syrup. Soya provides the best vegetable proteins and other healhty compunds, such as isoflavones; almonds provide poly and especially monounsaturated fatty acids; cereals (rice, barley, oat, and aramanth) provide starch, fibre and oligo-elements.
More about EcoMil
EcoMil Almond Instant is a drink in powder that is light and easy to digets. It is a healthy and nutritious drink, with high quality proteins and rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid) which can help you to regulate your cholesterol level.
Go to your local health food store and the clerks there should have some great options for you!!!
Below is a vegan web site that lists many vegan milk alternatives.
Good news for you! Almond milk is the only one with a 4-star rating!
Coconut milk is great tasting but doesn't dissolve well in coffee or tea. Rice Milk is great too! Then there's Soya Milk most are good tasting but there is one brand that's horrible tasting sorry don't remember the name of that bad tasting one! It's either the brand So Good or the brand So Nice.. I don't remember which is which! Well coconut milk is best and Rice milk called Rice Dream is fine in coffee or tea!

Hemp milk - rocks soy milk in my opinion as far as creamy flavor. Both have nutrients the other doesn't. Either is a great addition to your diet though =) in moderation of course!
Hemp has a good balance of omegas 3 and 6
I find this at sunflower market in phoenix for 2.50 on sale.
Depends on if you're looking for similar taste and flavor or similar nutrients.
Similar taste and flavor: rice milk, almond milk are good for cereal and drinking. Limit soy as it upsets your hormone balance.
How to make your own almond milk:
1. Soak 1/2 c. almonds in water overnight.
2. Drain.
3. Blend with 2-3 c. water.
4. Strain. Use cheesecloth or a nylon jelly bag.
5. Squeeze out all the moisture from the pulp. (Isn't is so foamy and beautiful?)
6. You may want to sweeten or flavor it. (Vanilla stevia drops, honey, maple syrup, cinnamon, cloves, allspice are all good additives)
Freshly made almond milk is a live food. It is a great source of healthy fat, protein, and calcium.
Similar nutrients: Leafy greens! They are the original source for the cows. Big salads and green smoothies made with 1/2 greens, 1/2 fruit, dates or honey, water or almond milk. Eat a wide variety and like 1-2 big handfuls a day.
The main reason that these are better is that dairy is contaminated with minuscule pathogenic microbes. Pasteurization also destroys the helpful digestive enzymes making milk difficult to digest.
