Can I use week old chicken batter to fry fish in?!

Question: Can I use week old chicken batter to fry fish in?
I fried chicken last weekend and am ready to fry up some fish now. I saved my flour/batter from last week..is it okay to use? Or do I have to worry about salmonella or anything because of the chicken it was used on. I usually put my flour in a zip lock bag and shake my food in it before i put it in the deep fryer..Please advise.

p.s...the batter smells sooooo good and still fresh!!!

You definitely need to throw out batter once it has been used for chicken.

Yes, you definitely have to worry about salmonella, Dump it and start over. If your flour mixture is that good, you should make extra and store it in zip-lock bags in your refrigerator. Use only what you need to batter your chicken or fish. If you actually shake your protein in the bag with just the flour mixture, no liquid, you can just add a smaller amount to the bag your using to shake the protein, then more as you need it.

That would be real nasty I mean in a restaurant we used to throw (we used to call it our egg wash for fried foods) our wash out every 4-6 hours and strain it so there were no lumps in it and the food would taste good never ever use an egg wash that is old , it van make you sick .

Don't reuse batter, marinade, etc... Given the relatively low cost and ease of mixing up a new batch, why chance it?

Please ! Just throw it away !

I wouldn't use the batter.
