It is kombu - seaweed - a different variety than the traditional black seaweed. I'm surprised you can still find it here. I have to order it from Japan.
Probably just the starch, japanese rice is very starchy so it sticks together. Or its snot.
Clear stuff?? Even though it's not black, it's probably some sort of fish egg. They come in all sorts of colors and are all clear-looking.
is it stringy it would be japanese horse raddish, that was cut really thin or the flat one red white or pink, that would be pickled ginger
I'm not sure what you mean buy clear...but yeah anything on the inside/around the sushi you can eat!
