How about actually investigating for your report? Read a little, browse a few recipes. Find some Indian restaurant and go there and actually taste the food. If there is none in your area get an easy recipe and make it at home.

There's plenty of recipe on the internet and the cuisine itself is very well documented, either on the angle of the spices used (spice trade route) or the various locale variations.

You can probably find episodes of "Spice Goddess" from Food Network, she does Indian and Indian inspired food.
