Ok,that is what you have read,are you sorry for their plight or just working out how the word 'survive' is bing used for food normally eaten over there?If these are the food items japanese usually eat,then it would stand to reason those are the items that are still around in their hour of need.
Japanese do eat a lot of sea food,but i think it would be too much to expect fresh sea food,with all the havoc & mess the sea has caused.I am sure ample help has arrived by this time.

Japan wasn't heavily damaged by the earthquake, but by the Tsunami - that wasn't really expected to be very strong
