Why do people use tofu instead of soybeans?
Since tofu is so refined why don't people consume soybeans properly cooked. It doesn't take very long and is much healthier then the alternative.
All it takes is soaking the beans in the night before, then cooking it while you prepare dinner and eat. Then you can have enough beans for the week and it is so much cheaper.
So please tell me why you eat tofu?
Answers:
several reasons-
first i LIKE tofu!! LOL!! it takes the flavor of whatever i cook it with- and adds protein without the fat and calories of other things.
2nd= my daughter hates beans or anything that LOOKs like
beans and she will eat tofu!!
3rd and usually the biggest reason- it depends on what you are cooking. when i add soft tofu to an egg recipe the beans wouldnt add to what i am trying to do. on the other hand if i want the texture of the bean then tofu would not be pleasing.
neither is truly better than the other (homemade tofu is equally nutritious)
hope this helps

It tastes better?
There are more options with tofu. You can make desserts, and fry it and make it like scrambled eggs. There are so many options. Soybeans I dont think would make a good faux cheesecake.
I can think of 3 reasons:
convenience
habit
that "texture" grows on you; you get used to the feeling of the tofu as you're eating it...
???
Don't eat tofu just eat a double bacon cheeseburger
I don't think you quite understand what tofu is! LOL!. I make my own, and all that goes in it is....soymilk made by boiling soybeans, and a pinch of seasalt to make it curdle.
Tofu is an infinitely more flexible ingedient than just the raw or cooked beans....
I would LOVE it if I could find fresh soybeans that I could cook, but where I live it's hard to find. Tofu is just convenient.
I personally don't like tofu, I would MUCH rather make it myself. Maybe than I would like it a little more?
I think people just eat it out of convenience. It's hard for some people to be able to make extra time to make their own.
We use both, but I love cooking with tofu. It has endless options and can complete most meals. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Ive actually never used fresh soybeans though, I've only seen the frozen ones..we normally have a few packages in the freezer at a time.
I love the taste of soy itself, can't find soy beans around (only in the field) my area, only tofu.
I like tofu. I have made it at home from homemade soymilk and lemon juice. It's very cool.
Some people do it just depending on the recipe. It can be good for certain flavors, ect. I'm not a fan of tofu, but if it's prepared well I like it.
Because tofu is like a subsitute for meat. And it taste better when cooked.
