What's the best way to grill a medium rare steak when I don't have a barbecue?!

Question:

What's the best way to grill a medium rare steak when I don't have a barbecue?

Answers:
If you like the outside brown and carmelized with the center still medium rare, I recommend pan searing instead of the broiler!
If you have a cast iron skillet, that works best, but any fry pan will do in a pinch. Heat a little canola or vegetable oil up till it's good and hot and then put your steak in...make sure the steak has sat at room temp for about 20-30 minutes before you cook it!
Depending on the thickness, it usually takes about 4-5 minutes per side ... maybe less if it's a thin steak! Hope this helps!

do you own a grill pan or an indoor electric grill ex. George Forman or something to that effect...
that is probably the best way, if not you can pan sear it in high heat a couple minutes per side and even use the pan drippings to do a killer mushroom sauce.

You can always use the broiler in your oven.
Or you can pan fry it.. not grilled but if you season it well its ok.

Broiler takes about 5min on each side.

the broiler is one way to go....i think it would be best to pan sear it in a saute pan....and if you do that....i suggest generously seasoning your steak with fresh cracked pepper....steak au poivre
