What's a good pill supplement for a vegetarian?!
What's a good pill supplement for a vegetarian?
Looking for a pill that can supplement the things I need from meat products. Any suggestions?
Answers:
Vit B12. This is the only vitamin that occurs mainly in animals. Of course, you can eat cereals that are fortified with vit B12.
Other than that, unless there is any specific illness, you don't need any supplements as long as you have a balanced diet. The American Dietetic Association supports a well-balanced vegetarian diet is nutritional adequate. Otherwise, seek your doctor's advice and tell him/her that you are a vegetarian. The doctor should be able to prescribe pills made of non-animal origin.

i use veganlife multivitamin with iron . im a vegetarian but they only make a vegan one which is cool with me. it syas on the bottle to take three a day but from calculating the recommended daily amounts i figured out you only have to take 2 a day .it has iron and b12 in it which is great for vegetarians . i buy it at veganstore.com . if you cant buy stuff online then try looking up a natural food store or something like that where you live. most vitamins in stores like walmart have animal products in them .
I'm in the UK and have recently found an all round multivitamin plus minerals supplement from Seven Seas which is specifically for vegetarians and vegans. I don't know if you can get Seven Seas where you live. You have to be careful with some supplements as they either use a gelatin capsule or have non vegetarian ingredients. This product is approved by the Vegetarian Society UK.
You may get people denigrating being a veggie, or saying that you shouldn't need a supplement if you are eating a balanced diet...none of the people who say those things know you or your lifestyle so your best bet is to just ignore them
Vegetarian for almost 18 years...

As a life long vegetarian, as long as you eat a relatively balanced diet, you are going to get most of what you need from the variety of foods. The only thing that you might need is a B multivitamin. That's all I take at times and I've been a rather healthy person. You should also look into vegetarian Indian food. A balanced Indian vegetarian meal usually has at least one cooked vegetable, one cooked bean or lentil, Indian style bread or tortillas and something dairy - esp. yogurt. Change the type of vegetable and bean often for variety and get an Indian cookbook. Vegetables can actually taste quite good if ya know how to cook 'em right!
I take a multi-vitamin, calcium,b-12,b-6. And I eat protein bars/drinks, peanut butter, salads and cereal with protein in it. I try to look for and eat foods with a higher protein content.
