A "Tempura" batter is good but make it just before you use it :- equal quantities of plain flour & cornflour, add seasoning (& whatever spices you prefer) & whisk to a paste with ICED sparkling water n.b. it doesnt matter if there are a few small lumps - in fact this is preferable
try a normal batter mix and add some chilli seeds and some scotch bonette
make up an ordinary batter and then you can add just about any spice you like. marasla is good as is the colour .Or try a little liquid medium chilli sauce like "sriracha sauce". get it from your local asian supermarket.
