Cookbook recommendations?!

Question:

Cookbook recommendations?

My girlfriend loves to cook and really enjoys reading cookbooks. I'd like to get her a good cookbook; something new that she is not likely to have in her collection.
The type of cuisine isn't too important, although maybe I'd want to stay away from French/European cuisine, since I think she has several books on the subject.

Answers:
Professional Cooking by Wayne Gisslen.
Don't use Rachel Ray's cookbooks because she is not really that good a cook and her books are loaded with technical mistakes.
If you want to get her a celebrity chef cookbook get her something by Alton Brown
who DID go to a good culinary school.
Another good possibility is The New York Cookbook by Molly O'Neil . She's a good cook and a good writer. The book contains a lot of recipes that are particular to NYC .Ms O'Neil includes a great deal of NYC history that ties into the recipe(s)
All in all it's a good book to read.
You may also think about getting her a subscription to Cooks Illustrated which is hands down the best food magazine out there. A subscription to Wine Spectator is another possibility.

Rachel Ray! she's got really good books out

Alton Brown of tv's food network has some interesting cookbooks that are very readable. If shes into desserts you can't beat Death By Chocolate!

Rachel Ray has some very good cook books. She's the best chef in the world! (other than emeril) =]

Check out the Better Homes and Gardens line, they have great recipes and awesome photography. The southern living annual recipe collections are a good choice, too. I use them along with my Joy of Cooking all the time.

I will guarantee you she doesn't have this book, as most women won't. It is a gift for both of you:
The Best of Barbecue University by Steven Raichlen

get her an Amish cookbook, very good recipes from scratch. Rachel Ray has alot of pre-prepared things in her recipes. I cook from scratch and like wholesome good recipes that you make taste good yourself without opening a package of something. If you want any recipes, let me know.

I'll have a selection of my favourite cook books on my link, hope its helpful.
