Edamame preparation?!

Question:

Edamame preparation?

I absolutely LOVE getting edamame when I go to my favorite sushi place. Is there a trick to preparing edamame beans @ home? Do I need a veggie steamer? How long do I cook them? Any good recipes?

Answers:
boil it in water and when you take them out sprinkle a little salt on them or just ask the sushi place maybe they'll help you out. the kind i get is already cooked and frozen in the freezer section so you just have to microwave them!

Edamame Soup

INGREDIENTS
3/4 pound shelled edamame
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 small onion, chopped
2 1/2 cups chicken stock
1 2/3 cups milk
1 1/2 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add edamame, boil for 5 minutes, then drain and rinse with cold water. Once edamame have cooled, remove the skins by squeezing each bean until the center pops out; discard the shells and set the beans aside.
Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in onions and cook until they soften and turn translucent, about 5 minutes. Pour in chicken stock, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes. Add shelled edamame and continue cooking until the edamame and onions are both soft.
Pour into a blender and carefully puree until smooth; or use a stick blender, and puree the beans in the saucepan. Return the puree to the saucepan and stir in milk and butter. Heat the soup through, about 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

hope this helps i can't find a recipe for beans but i think this will give you an idea.

Don't buy a steamer. I do all my veggies in the microwave. I just rinse them really well and then put in microwave safe bowl with a lid. Cook on High for 1 min, stir and season, then cook for 1 - 2 more minutes( depends on veggie or amount)more mins. I let them sit for a minute or 2. They should be perfect then... Good Luck!

I love the buttery taste of the edamame without the butter- yum!

You only have to cook fresh beans for about 10 minutes, drain and lightly salt them. You can also buy frozen ones and just pop them in the microwave. Follow this link for some (54) recipes.
