What is Immitation Crab made out of?!

Question:

What is Immitation Crab made out of?

Are people allergic to Shell-fish, but not to regular fish meat able to eat immitation crab meat. Specifically in sushi and it's various uses, without triggering an allergic reaction?

Answers:
It is usually made from Alaskan Pollack, a regular fish. I'm allergic to shellfish and eat the imitation crab all the time.

i believe it is alaskan pollock. thats what they use in "Krab" salad. they freeze dry it and mix it together in one long piece and add a strip of red color. then the cut it to size and distribute

I think it is made from whitefish

It's made of Alaskan Pollock. I would suggest you check with a doctor or dietician before eating it if you have an allergy...you just don't want to take the chance, right?

But it's really good, it's much cheaper than crab and its taste is a little bit more subtle...not so "fishy".

most of the imitation crab, or Krab, is just white fish. If you can handle white fish, then you should be able to handle Krab. You can get some from the grocery store and test it at home...have your benadryl handy & ready. If you are so allergic that you would need to use an EpiPen for shellfish, I would leave all seafood alone.

Pollock.

Shellfish and fish are very different, as far as allergens are concerned. I'm allergic to shellfish but not fish.

I'd rather suffer from an allergic reaction than eat the fake stuff.

Imitation seafood (called surimi) is made from mild-flavored fish such as Alaskan pollock. The fish is skinned, boned and rinsed to tone down its taste, smell and pigment. It's then minced, colored and blended with flavor concentrate made from shellfish. Then it's cooked and cut into various shapes to look like shrimp, lobster chunks, crab legs and scallops. Interestingly, surimi (meaning "minced fish" in Japanese) was developed in Japan almost 1,000 years ago.

imitation crab meat is made up of fish parts and given crab flavoring. you should not get an allergic reaction to imitation crab.

I believe it is made out of cod fish. Next time you buy some read the ingredients.

I don't know If they do cause a reaction but its made of Alskan Pollack and egg whites and sugar and flavorings. I eat it every month mmmmmmmmmm toasty
