Babaganoush allergy?!

Question:

Babaganoush allergy?

I love babaganoush, but when I eat it, my inner ear tubes start itching like crazy! I eat baked eggplant with no problem. Could the roasted eggplant be an irritant? Does anyone know anything about this?

Answers:
Hi! Aw, that really is too bad - I'm a big fan of babaganoush myself. I don't really know why this happens, it's the first time I've heard of it. I'm thinking maybe it is the tahini? Does tahini seem to bother you in other dishes? Babaganoush contains quite a lot of tahini, so this may be the culprit of your problem. I don't think their is such a great difference between roasted and boiled eggplant - at least not so much to cause such a violent reaction in your body! I'm really not sure, but try crossing out the several ingredients of babaganoush by eating them in other dishes (seasame, gralic etc) and see if this occurs again. If not, it may just be the combination, or as the answerer above said, a seasonal thing. I hope I helped, and that this solves your problem (and you can start enjoying this dish again!) xx

Banaganoush also contains sesame and occasionally, yogurt.
However, I too have experienced mild symptoms after eating roasted eggplant (other forms are fine). It doesn't go to my inner ear; it just stays in my upper mouth for a minute or two.

There's a lot of stuff in there. My ears have been itchy a lot lately too. I am allergic to ketchup but there's no ear reaction there. Maybe it's a summer thing.
