Question:

Can you buy alcohol with an out of state i.d.?

I live in Cali. can i buy alcohol if the only i.d i have is a texas one?

Answers:
It depends on the community you are in. I lived in a community which had a law for buying products requiring a California I.D. only. The reason this was such was because of the high number of counterfeit i.d.'s floating around. In fact in Ca. I will tell you if you have an out of state i.d. and the clerk refused your i.d he/she has the right to not accept it because they may not be sure about what that state i.d. is supposed to look like. I worked in a mini mart and refused out of state i.d.'s because there are so many fakes out there. If i sold you tobacco or alcohol on a out of state i.d. i can be fined 1000 dollars and 6 months in jail for a first offense if the i.d. is not an authentic i.d. so, i protect myself by not accepting out of state i.d.'s It's not worth it for me to go to jail for some one elses crime of passing a fake i.d. and not picking up on it. I think other clerks feel the same way as I do So, a clerk does not have to accept your out of state i.d. and you can't do a thing about it but go to another store. BTW if a clerk does not like how your i.d. looks they have every right by the law to keep your i.d. and call the police to collect which can authenticate it or if it's not real arrest you.

there is no law regarding id but each establishments sets up its own requirements as to what they will accept as ID.

Being from Texas myself, and well above the "carding" age, I can go to any State and buy alcohol without even showing any ID. If you have a questionable ID, and are near the age where someone would want to card you, well, you might get carded, and if they don't like the ID you present, and you're close to the legal/illegal age boundary, you might not be able to buy alcohol. God Bless you.

Uh yeah. If it's a valid ID.

I am living in Illinois with a Michigan ID, I am able to go to bars or buy alcohol without any problems.

YES!
