Where does vodka sauce originate from?"?!

Question:

Where does vodka sauce originate from?"?

From what country does vodka sauce originate from?

Answers:
is very neatly dancing on a pin: part quite right, part not-quite-so-right... :-)

The sauce *is* Italian: back in the 70s, with nouvelle cuisine gaining focus in France, a comparable nuova cucina development tried to do the same in Italy. Because certain flavour compounds in tomato and pepper are only alcohol soluble -- the reason wines can form such an important part in Italian 'red' sauce making -- the 'nuova cucinista' needed to retain that solubility capability from alcohol, while trying to rid themselves of the perceived 'heaviness' of full bodied red wines commonly used untill then, and vodka was the ideal candidate, it was thought, having the alcohol yet effectively no discernible taste whatsoever, to maintain the taste advantages that alcohol 'liberated' from the fruit, when combined with tomatoes & peppers in sauces. (There was also a cost advantage, dishes requiring very much less vodka compared with wine to get the equal, required effect on the taste.)

It didn't really last in Italy for any period of time worth mentioning, but meantime, very shortly afterwards it was eagerly taken up in the US as *the* latest must-have, must-do thing, and it has held its ground there for appreciably longer than in the country of its origin.

"And that's how the camel got its hump"... :-)

I believe it may be Russia

Are you talking about a recipe to make a sauce with vodka or where vodka comes from? I believe it is made from potatoes and I think vodka originated in Russia. I'd have to search the internet to find out but need to know what you actually mean first.

The vodka sauce that I'm familiar with is a creamy tomato pasta sauce. I've only seen it in Italian restaurants, so I'm assuming it's Italian.

Japan,China ,Korea, Vietnam

It's a "fantasy" sauce but I don't know which cook invented it and where.

Probably America. It sounds like something a fusion chef in California dreamed up.
I don't think Italians would think of putting vodka into their wonderful sauces. And even though vodka is Russian, they don't generally cook with it, or use it as an ingredient in sauce (probably because the alcohol gets cooked out.)
