Why is there a setting on toasters that would totally burn bread?!

Question:

Why is there a setting on toasters that would totally burn bread?

On my toaster it goes up to number 6. Even number 2 burns bread badly so why would anyone ever want or need it on number 6? Its the same for all of them - why?

Answers:
Sounds like you need a new toaster! If you're one of those people that like their bread lightly dried with a hint of gold round the edges, suggest you use an ordinary grill and watch carefully.

Some people keep their bread in the fridge or freezer - it needs to warm up before it can toast, so it needs to cook longer, hence the higher setting, but if you don't need it don't use it. This setting is also good where the bread's thicker or if you're toasting crumpets or muffins.

There will always be at least one person in the world who threatens to sue because their toast isn't brown enough, hence the cremation setting, but for the rest of us it's just one of life's little mysteries. Like the eternal question of why you always get left with a few odd socks after doing the washing, even if only matched pairs went in.

i cook waffles in the toaster, and i put it up to the highest! number 6 may not be designed for bread alone!

For frozen bread !!.

.Yeah, I often wonder that too, I like my toast well done, but not cremated

haha thats good well i suppose if u were going to be making a dish u could make the bread liek a crouton and crumple it up to maybe make a cassarole crust.

just be carful hahahaha

So you can cook other things as well like crupets and even melts which take longer and hotter temperatures to cook.

cajun toast!

Just in case you like your bread burnt, but also it's there to heat up bagels when they sit on top of the toaster.

Good point, why can you burn your toast, or does it depend on the bread or item to be toasted, perhaps different breakfast items for tasting have different rates of toastong

have a star though good question

I guess some people actually likes burned toast.

I knew a pregnant lady who had a craving for burned toast!

Otherwise it is useful for lighting a cigarette when you've lost your lighter - Ha ha!

may be some people like it burnt of may be to defrost thing or maybe for crumpettes or muffins or bagles

Toasters aren't just for bread!... Waffles take more heat so do sliced bagels and pop tarts and......?

All people do not use the same type of bread. Some are thicker, some have more moisture content, and some are made of material that takes heat for a longer time to brown. Having owned a restaurant I have also had people order toast that was well charred on the surface. Your timer may be off in your toaster also. A lot of things to look at.

It was invented for my husband to use!!! LOL He loves charcoal toast! Dunno why!

That is exactly the question I have pondered!!! Mine blackens even on 1...and it wasn't a cheap and nasty one either.

It's a bit like why do cars odometers go all the way round to 200kph when the speed limit is 50 in built up areas and 100 on the open road. (110kph on an expressway.)

good question my ex fellas brother whos 7 put some toast on and put it on the highest setting and the toaster caught fire and the bread was totally cremated.

because people may like burnt bread

Frozen bagels

So its all crispy

I really like burnt toast with hard butter on it - so I purposely
burn toast sometimes - its really good.

brown bread takes longer to toast then white bread

some people might like burnt toast, and besides, that setting might be there to toast other things

to toast crumpets

so you can make burnt toast without having to leave bread under the grill :-)
